As a team the boys placed second behind Plains.

Jonathan Lira from Plains was the reigning state champion in track in one and two mile runs.

Jonathan worked his hardest to keep up

with Travis and he could never quite pull ahead. He ended up getting second place.

We asked all the boys about advancing to the state cross country meet.

Sanderson’s very own Travis Roberts stool even taller than usual on the podium Saturday after winning the state 1A cross country championship at Round Rock. He beat out Jonathan Lira of Plains, left, and Logan Foster of Slocum.

“Winning state never seemed so easy and it was the best senior season I could ever hope for,” new state champion Travis Roberts said. “I hope to compete competitively in meets to come.”

“It was a good experience and it was fun and I am glad that there are still two years to come,” Taylor Roberts said.

“It was freaking awesome!” was Shawn Stegall’s reply.

“It was a great year and almost a perfect ending to my high school career in cross country,” said Chris Marquez.

“I’m glad I have another two years left, can’t wait. I hope to make it to state again next year,” said Joseph Hopkins.

“It was fun and I enjoyed it,” replied Darren Seidel in his typical man-of-few words style.

Congratulations to all of the boys. We are proud of you.

American Education Week starts today

Sanderson Elementary is celebrating American Education Week with a “Parent's Day” from 8:30 to 11 a.m. today, Nov. 20.

Parents are invited to visit their child's classroom for 10 or 15 minutes to see what their child's school day is like.

“We are encouraging all of our parents to attend,” Assistant Principal Tanna Lowrance said. “We want parents to know that the number one factor in a student's success is parental involvement.”

American Education Week is sponsored by the National Education Association and spotlights the importance of providing every child in America with a quality public education from kindergarten through college and the need for everyone to do his or her part in making public schools great.
