Travis Roberts is the 1A state champion cross country runner for 2009. He ran the three-mile course
with a time of 16:30. There were 107 runners overall at the state meet.
Travis was quickly followed by his younger brother, Taylor
Roberts, placing seventh with a time of 17:09. Shawn Stegall placed 11th with a time of 17:25, Chris Marquez placed 38th with a time
of 18:28, Joseph Hopkins placed 53rd with a time of 18:48 and Darren Seidel placed 91st with a time of 20:39.
As a team the boys placed
second behind Plains.
Jonathan Lira from Plains was the reigning state champion in track in one and two mile runs.

“It was a good experience and it
was fun and I am glad that there are still two years to come,” Taylor Roberts said.
“It was freaking awesome!” was Shawn Stegall’s
reply.
“It was a great year and almost a perfect ending to my high school career in cross country,” said Chris Marquez.
“I’m glad
I have another two years left, can’t wait. I hope to make it to state again next year,” said Joseph Hopkins.
“It was fun and I enjoyed
it,” replied Darren Seidel in his typical man-of-few words style.

at State CC event
American Education Week starts today
Sanderson Elementary is celebrating American Education Week with a “Parent's Day” from 8:30 to
11 a.m. today, Nov. 20.
Parents are invited to visit their child's classroom for 10 or 15 minutes to see what their child's school
day is like.
“We are encouraging all of our parents to attend,” Assistant Principal Tanna Lowrance said. “We want parents to know
that the number one factor in a student's success is parental involvement.”
American Education Week is sponsored by the National Education
Association and spotlights the importance of providing every child in
