SANDERSON – The 27th annual St. James Festival Saturday and Sunday “was a success,” St. James member
Tina Flores said this week. The benefit brought in nearly $10,000 for the church.
There were no candidates for St. James king and queen
but the festival brought scores of visitors to the community.
There were mariachis, a silent auction, a bake sale, a roast beef lunch,
a washer tournament, the annual softball tournament – with ten teams this year – and even bingo.
In the softball tournament, first
place went to The X Team, made up of players from
In second place was The Garcia Team of Midland. Members of the team each got a t-shirt for his reward.
In third place
was The Mix Crew made up of players from Iraan and

The silent
auction offered items such as a 10-piece nativity set, a crock pot and western lamps.
Those lucky enough to holler “Bingo” may have
won a set of towels, a 12 pack of cokes or maybe a gallon of salsa.
There was a cakewalk as well as other games.
The game of “washers” is becoming more and more popular. This year, the festival hosted a tournament and had 18 two-man teams partake.
