Senior Travis Roberts won first place and brother William was right behind at second.
The Eagle cross-country
team advanced to the state level for the first time as a team, placing third overall by one point. The top three teams advanced.
There
were a total of 163 high school boys vying for the honors.
Travis ran the race in 16:24.97 for the win while William, a sophomore,
clocked in with a time of 16:48.33.
Sophomore Shawn Stegall crossed the line in 17:26.46 and senior Chris Marquez ran the race in 18:25.49.
Crossing
the line in 18:46.15 was sophomore Joseph Hopkins and senior Darren Seidel finished the race in 21:56.35.
“The kids are runnin’ real good,” Cross Country Coach Brad Conway told the News Leader. “I can’t complain. They have been focused since Day One.
“We turned some
heads at Regionals,” he said. “Maybe we’ll turn some at State.”
The State competition will be tomorrow, Nov. 14, at

VETERAN DEFINED –
SANDERSON – The Sanderson Eagles ended their 2009 season at home last Friday by taking on the Eagles.
The
SANDERSON – It was on the 11th hour of the day of the 11th Month 91 years ago that the “war to end all wars” came to an end.
To mark
the date, the nation and much of the world observe the date and Sanderson was no different.
Round ball is back for Eagles
COMSTOCK – The Sanderson Eagle varsity girls basketball team defeated the Comstock Panthers in the first
game of the new season here this week, outscoring the hosts 41-23.
Top scorer for the Eagles was Sarah Sivils, accumulating 17 points
before fouling out.
Blakeney Chriesman hit the hoop for 11 points, Amber Bon and Noemi Nuñez both added six points to the tally and
Juliana Castro sank a free throw adding one point.

SANDERSON – Random drug testing, which has been required for all Terrell County employees operating equipment
that needs a commercial driver’s license, has now been extended to all non-elected county employees.
Terrell County Commissioners Monday
approved the change, effective immediately, and named Road and Bridge Supervisor Mike Sanchez to coordinate the project.
